Description

The VELUX VSS C08 Solar Opening Skylight 550x1400mm is a tall premium solar-powered skylight for pitched roofs, designed for rooms that need stronger natural light, fresh air and remote operation without hard-wiring the skylight motor. It suits bathrooms, laundries, hallways, bedrooms, kitchens, stairwells and deeper daylight zones. The solar panel recharges a hidden battery-operated system, while the wireless keypad makes opening and closing simple. A built-in rain sensor automatically closes the skylight when rain is detected, and the insect screen helps keep ventilation comfortable.

With a 407x1219mm internal glass size, approximately 0.50m² daylight area, 0.64m² ventilation area and approx. 50.35kg listed weight excluding EDW flashing, VSS C08 is a strong daylight and airflow upgrade. Pair it with VELUX EDW flashing or VELUX Custom Flashing C08.

    After removing the old skylight, I unpacked the Velux and discovered that the plastic tab of the screen on the upper left corner was broken. Since the previous skylight had already been taken out, I had no option but to proceed with the Velux installation. I contacted Central Skylights, and they assured me that Velux would send a replacement tab along with instructions for installing it. Hopefully, it will arrive soon.

Flashing and roof compatibility

VELUX EDW flashing for tiled roofs

For suitable tiled roofs, pair the VSS C08 with VELUX EDW flashing. EDW flashing is designed for profiled roofing such as concrete or terracotta tiles and similar profiled roof materials.

Custom flashing for metal roofs

For metal roof profiles, use the matching VELUX Custom Flashing C08 Skylight for FS, VS, VSS and VSE 550 x 1400mm skylights. Confirm whether your roof is corrugated, TrimDeck, Kliplok or another metal profile before ordering.

  • Minimum 15° pitch is required for VSS pitched roof skylights.
  • The matching C08 custom flashing is used for FS, VS, VSS and VSE 550 x 1400mm skylights.
  • VELUX EDW suits tiled roofs and some low-profile metal roofs such as corrugated/spandek, but is not suitable for Klip-Lok or Trimdek profiles.
  • Custom Colorbond flashing is commonly preferred for corrugated, TrimDeck and Kliplok metal roof installations.
  • Confirm roof pitch, rafter spacing, roof profile, water flow and skylight orientation before ordering.
