The VELUX GPL MK04 is a dual-action roof window for in-reach attic, loft, mezzanine and sloped-ceiling rooms. It combines a direct outside view, natural ventilation and high-performance double glazing with approximately 601 × 783mm of internal glass, 0.47m² daylight area and 0.58m² ventilation area.

Roof Window vs Standard Skylight
If the opening will be high or difficult to reach, a standard VS, VSE or VSS skylight may be more practical than an in-reach GGL/GPL roof window.
Which Flashing Should You Use With GPL MK04?
Roof-window flashing is sold separately. Match both the MK04 size code and the actual roof material before ordering.
VELUX FACTORY FLASHING EDW / EDL / EKW
- EDW MK04: compatible tile and low-profile corrugated roofs
- EDL: suitable slate / shingle applications
- EKW: suitable multiple-window combinations; VELUX specifies 100mm spacing
- Standard EDW is not suitable for wide-span profiles such as TrimDeck or Klip-Lok
PITCH & SPECIAL ROOFS Check Pitch Before the Roof Is Cut
GPL MK04 is specified for 15°–55°. For roofs below 15°, VELUX says the roof window needs to be raised to at least 15° and custom flashed after project assessment.
If the roof is TrimDeck, Klip-Lok or another non-standard profile, send roof photos before ordering flashing.

Installation Height, Framing & Fall Prevention
Confirm rafter/truss spacing, structural opening, finished window height and local compliance before cutting the roof.

Yes. GGL and GPL roof windows are designed for in-reach attic, loft and sloped-ceiling applications. For high/out-of-reach positions, compare standard manual, electric or solar skylights.
2. What flashing do I need for GPL MK04?
For a compatible tile or low-profile corrugated roof, the matching starting point is EDW MK04. Slate/shingle may require EDL; multiple-window layouts may use EKW; TrimDeck/Klip-Lok and special situations need different flashing advice.
3. How heavy is GPL MK04?
VELUX lists GPL MK04 at approximately 41.5kg, and the product-sheet footnote states that the weight includes flashing. Plan delivery, lifting and roof access accordingly.
4. What blind fits GPL MK04?
Use the matching FHC MK04 manual honeycomb blind. For older roof windows, check the VELUX data plate because newer accessories may not fit earlier generations.
5. Should I choose GGL or GPL?
Choose GPL when top-hung opening and a clearer outside view are worth the premium. Choose the same-size GGL for simpler centre-pivot operation and the wider 15°–90° roof range.
