VELUX fixed skylights for a darker lounge ceiling

This Altona Meadows skylight installation was designed around a high, sloping timber ceiling in the lounge. The aim was to add even daylight over the living area while keeping the finish clean and suitable for the existing ceiling lining.

Central Skylights supplied and installed two VELUX FS M08 fixed skylights, each 780 x 1400mm, with VELUX EDW flashings for the tiled pitched roof. Solar honeycomb blinds were also installed to suit the two fixed skylights.

Roof and flashing

Tile roof installation with EDW flashing

The roof photos show a pitched tiled roof with the VELUX FS skylights set into the tile line. For this type of roof, the EDW flashing system is used to integrate the skylight with tiles and manage water flow around the frame.

The finish matters because a skylight is not just a window in the roof. Correct placement, correct flashing, tile preparation and careful internal finishing all work together to create a reliable and neat result.

Why this job matters

A practical fixed skylight upgrade for western Melbourne homes

Homes in Altona Meadows often have living areas where roof shape, ceiling finish and room layout all affect the skylight result. This job is a good example of planning the skylight around the home, not just choosing a size.

Better natural light

Two larger fixed skylights help spread daylight through the lounge instead of creating one small bright spot.

Cleaner ceiling integration

The timber-lined ceiling needed careful set-out and finishing so the skylights looked intentional, not like an afterthought.

Correct roof system

Using the matching EDW flashing for a tiled pitched roof helps the skylight integrate with the existing roof covering.
