Roof Profile, Pitch & Orientation
Flat-roof VELUX families can be used across flat and low-pitch roof applications, but the exact installation range depends on the selected skylight model. The custom flashing must still be designed around the actual roof profile, kerb height, orientation and drainage conditions.

Do not select orientation from the flashing alone. Confirm the exact skylight model and its permitted installation orientation before the flashing is fabricated.
Kerb / Upstand Requirements
VELUX flat-roof skylights are installed with a raised kerb/upstand or model-specific curb-mounted arrangement. The custom flashing connects that raised base to the surrounding roof and forms part of the overall water-management system.

Backflash & Water Management
Water travelling down the roof must be directed around the skylight and returned safely to the roof drainage path. Depending on the roof, a backflash or extended back tray may be recommended on the uphill side of the skylight.
Backflash May Be Important When
- The roof pitch is low
- There is substantial roof area above the skylight
- The skylight sits well below the ridge
- The roof has wide pans or unusual profiles
- The skylight is close to a wall or roof junction
