Choose the Right VELUX Skylight for Your Roof, Room and Project
You have seen the VELUX products above. The next step is making sure you choose the right model, size, operating type and flashing for the roof it will actually be installed on.
Central Skylights supplies genuine VELUX skylights, roof windows, Sun Tunnels, blinds, controls and flashings to homeowners, builders, roofers, renovators and installers across Melbourne. You can buy supply-only, collect from our Noble Park showroom and warehouse, arrange delivery, or ask us about professional installation.
If you are unsure what to order, send us your roof details or photos before purchasing. A quick compatibility check can help avoid ordering the wrong skylight or flashing.
Four Things to Check Before Buying a VELUX Skylight
Daylight or ventilation?
If you only need natural light, a fixed skylight is usually the simplest choice. If fresh air matters, compare manual, electric and solar-opening models.
What type of roof?
Pitched tile, corrugated metal, Trimdek, Klip-Lok and flat or low-pitch roofs can require different skylight and flashing arrangements.
Which model and size?
Match the model to the room, ventilation requirement, roof space, framing, desired daylight and the amount of ceiling area available.
Which flashing and accessories?
The skylight is only part of the system. Confirm the flashing, blind, controls and any required roof-specific installation components.
Which VELUX Skylight Should You Choose?
The model code tells you much more than the size. Start with how the skylight needs to operate, then match it to the roof and room.
| VELUX Range | Operation | Best For | Typical Application | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FS | Fixed | Maximum daylight where ventilation is not required | Pitched roofs | View FS |
| VS | Manual opening | Daylight plus manually controlled fresh air | Pitched roofs | View VS |
| VSE | Electric opening | Remote ventilation with mains-powered operation and rain sensor | Pitched roofs | View VSE |
| VSS | Solar opening | Remote ventilation without a mains power connection to the skylight | Pitched roofs | View VSS |
| FCM / VCM / VCS | Fixed / manual / solar | Daylight or ventilation on flat and low-pitch roof applications | Flat and low-pitch roofs | View Flat Roof |
| GGL / GPL | Opening roof windows | Attics, lofts and rooms where the roof window is designed to be in reach | Pitched roofs / sloped ceilings | View Roof Windows |
| TWR / TWF | Sun Tunnel | Hallways, robes, bathrooms, laundries, pantries and smaller dark spaces | Selected roof applications | View Sun Tunnels |
Model suitability also depends on roof pitch, roof profile, installation method and current VELUX technical requirements. Ask us if you are unsure.
VELUX Skylights for Daylight, Ventilation and Roof Type
VELUX FS Fixed Skylights
A strong choice when the priority is natural daylight and the room already has adequate ventilation. Available in a wide range of sizes for different room proportions and daylight requirements.
Shop FS Fixed Skylights →VELUX VS Manual Skylights
Adds controllable natural ventilation as well as daylight. Manual operation can suit installations where a simple opening skylight is preferred.
Shop VS Manual Skylights →VELUX VSE Electric Skylights
Remote opening, natural ventilation and automatic rain-sensor closing make VSE particularly useful for skylights installed out of easy reach.
Shop VSE Electric Skylights →VELUX VSS Solar Skylights
Solar-powered remote opening combines daylight, ventilation and rain-sensor protection without requiring a mains power connection to operate the skylight.
Shop VSS Solar Skylights →VELUX FCM, VCM & VCS
Choose fixed, manual-opening or solar-opening solutions for suitable flat and low-pitch roof situations. Correct kerb, upstand and flashing design is essential.
View Flat Roof Skylights →VELUX GGL & GPL Roof Windows
Designed for accessible pitched-roof applications where the window can form part of the room itself and provide daylight, ventilation and a view outside.
Shop VELUX Roof Windows →The Skylight Is Only Half the Decision — Flashing Matters
Correct flashing is critical to how the skylight integrates with the roof and sheds water. The right flashing depends on more than the VELUX size code.
Corrugated is not the same as Trimdek or Klip-Lok
Standard VELUX flashing systems can suit many tile and conventional corrugated roof applications, but they are not a universal solution for every metal roof profile.
In particular, standard VELUX EDW flashing is not intended for wide-span metal profiles such as Trimdek and Klip-Lok.
Central Skylights manufactures made-to-order Colorbond custom flashing for many VELUX applications, giving roofers, builders and renovators another option when the standard flashing kit is not appropriate.

VELUX Skylights Melbourne FAQs
Where can I buy VELUX skylights in Melbourne?
Central Skylights supplies genuine VELUX skylights, roof windows, Sun Tunnels, blinds, flashings and accessories from our Noble Park showroom and warehouse. You can order online, arrange pickup or ask about Melbourne delivery.
What is the difference between VELUX FS and FCM skylights?
FS is a fixed VELUX skylight intended for pitched-roof applications. FCM is a fixed skylight designed for flat and low-pitch roof applications. The roof construction and flashing arrangement are different, so they should not be treated as interchangeable products.
What is the difference between VS, VSE and VSS?
VS is manually operated. VSE is electrically operated and includes remote control and rain-sensor functionality. VSS is solar powered, remotely operated and also includes a rain sensor. The best option depends on access, ventilation needs, power availability and budget.
Do I need flashing with a VELUX skylight?
A suitable flashing arrangement is an essential part of the roof installation. The correct solution depends on the VELUX model, size, roof pitch, roof material and roof profile. Do not select flashing based on the skylight size alone.
Can I use standard VELUX EDW flashing on Trimdek or Klip-Lok?
Standard EDW flashing is intended for compatible tile and conventional corrugated roof applications and is not intended for wide-span metal profiles such as Trimdek and Klip-Lok. These roofs commonly require a roof-specific custom flashing solution.
Can I install a VELUX blind later?
Many compatible VELUX blinds can be retrofitted after the skylight has been installed. The exact product code, size and age of the skylight should be checked before ordering because blind compatibility can vary.
Can I buy VELUX skylights without using Central Skylights for installation?
Yes. Supply-only is available for homeowners, builders, roofers, renovators and installers. We can also help with matching custom flashing, accessories, pickup and delivery.
Can Central Skylights install the skylight if I need it?
Yes. Professional installation is available for Melbourne projects. Depending on the quoted scope, this can include roof installation, flashing, internal shaft framing and plastering.
Need the VELUX Skylight, the Flashing — or Both?
Shop online if you already know what you need. If you are unsure, send us your roof photos, room details and preferred skylight size and our Melbourne team can help you check the product and flashing before you order.
